The Advantage of Universal Motors

The Universa lMotor are widely used in many fields, such as power tools, medical industry, home appliances, etc. What are the advantages and what are the disadvantages of universal motors?

Advantages:
1, The #universalmotor can work at both AC and DC power.
2, Big working voltage range.
3, The power factor of universal motor is high, it can be up to 0.9, higher speed, higher power factor.
4, The start torque is relatively big, it can be up to 4-6 times of normal working torque.
5, The speed of universal motor is high, can reach to 35000 rpm; it is easy to control the speed by changing the input voltage with resistance or SCR (Silicon Controlled Rectifier).
6, The construction is simple, small size, low manufacturing cost.

Disadvantages:

1, Big vibration, big noise when the dynamic balance of the #motor is not very well.
2, The EMC is worse, need to reduce the EMI with some actions, such as improving the dynamic balance, reducing vitiation, optimizing the housing, filter, etc.
3, The temperature rise is big when at high speed, can’t work at long time when at high speed.
4, Lower life when using brush on the motor.
